Terms of Service
Last updated:
These terms are an agreement between you and [TBD: full legal name of the operator] (“we”, “us”) about your use of Rerinku. Please read them carefully, especially the disclaimer and limitation of liability, which are in bold.
By creating a Rerinku Cloud account, signing in with Google or X, or using the Rerinku software or this website, you confirm that you have read and agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you use Rerinku on behalf of a company or other organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these terms for it.
1. Definitions
- Software: Rerinku Onboard (the server you deploy yourself), the Rerinku Android app, the command-line tool and the device SDK.
- Rerinku Cloud (“the Cloud service”): accounts, Quick Connect (remote access), the push notification relay and subscriptions.
- This website: rerinku.com and its pages.
2. Your account
- Sign up with a valid email address that belongs to you. You must be at least 16 years old.
- Keep your password and sign-in tokens safe. Anything done through your account is treated as done by you. If your account is compromised, contact us straight away.
- When you sign in with Google or X and the verified email address they provide matches an existing Rerinku account, the two are linked as one account.
- Each account is for one person or one organisation. Accounts may not be sold, rented or transferred.
3. The service
- The software runs on your own devices and does not depend on the Cloud service. Without an account or Quick Connect, it works normally on your local network.
- Quick Connect forwards web requests you make from outside to your Onboard, and relays live video when needed, so you can reach your Onboard from anywhere. It only forwards traffic and does not store video; see the Privacy Policy.
- The Free plan provides remote access at standard speed, which may stutter at busy times. Pro provides accelerated access. The subscription page describes exactly what each plan includes.
- We may add, change or discontinue features. If we discontinue a feature you have paid for, we will give you at least [TBD: 30] days’ notice.
4. Subscriptions and payment
- Pro is billed monthly or yearly, and payments are processed by Stripe. The price and any taxes are as shown at checkout.
- Automatic renewal: your subscription renews and is charged at the then-current price at the end of each billing period until you cancel.
- Cancelling: you can cancel at any time from the Billing page in the console. Pro stays active until the end of the current period, after which your account returns to the Free plan.
- Failed payments: Stripe retries automatically, and Pro stays active while it does. If payment keeps failing, the subscription ends and your account returns to the Free plan.
- Price changes: we will give you at least [TBD: 30] days’ notice of a price change, which takes effect from your next billing period. If you do not accept the new price, you can cancel before it takes effect.
- Refunds: [TBD: refund policy. Suggested default: “Except where the law requires otherwise, fees already paid are non-refundable; cancelling stops future renewals.” Rewrite this item if you offer a no-questions-asked refund period.]
5. Acceptable use
Connect only cameras, devices and networks that you own or are authorised to use. When installing and using cameras, follow the local laws on video surveillance, audio recording and personal data. For example:
- do not film private spaces such as the inside of other people’s homes, bathrooms or changing rooms;
- where others may enter the area a camera covers, display notices as local law requires;
- obtain any consent required before using face recognition on people. The face library is stored on your own device, and you are the controller of that personal information, responsible for the legal obligations that come with it.
You must not:
- access other people’s cameras, devices, accounts or networks without authorisation;
- use Quick Connect or the relay for anything other than reaching your own Onboard, for example as a general-purpose proxy, VPN or file distribution service;
- attack or interfere with the Cloud service, try to bypass its security or rate limits, or scan or load-test it without permission;
- create accounts in bulk, or resell or rent out the Cloud service;
- use Rerinku to store or distribute unlawful content, or for any other unlawful purpose.
If you break these rules, we may suspend or stop providing the Cloud service to you, and we reserve our legal rights.
6. Your data
- Camera video, recordings and detection results are stored on your own devices or the storage you choose. They belong to you, and backing them up and protecting them is your responsibility.
- Remote storage you configure (such as your own S3 or WebDAV) is provided by that storage provider under its own terms.
- To provide the Cloud service, you permit us to process the information you send through it as far as necessary, for example forwarding remote access requests and push notifications. We do not use it for anything else.
7. Software licences
- Open source components: the command-line tool and device SDK are provided under the licence in their repositories (currently the Apache License 2.0). See Open source.
- Closed source components: for software whose source is not published, such as Onboard and the Android app, we grant you a personal (or internal to your organisation), non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use it. Except where the law expressly allows or a third-party open source licence provides otherwise, you may not reverse engineer or decompile it, redistribute modified versions, or sell, rent or sublicense it.
- Third-party components: the software includes third-party open source components such as FFmpeg, Pion and libdatachannel, which are provided under their own licences. Nothing in these terms limits the rights those licences give you.
- AI models: models downloaded when you turn on AI detection are published by third parties under their own licence terms. Some may be limited to non-commercial use; check before using them commercially.
- Trademarks: the Rerinku name and logo belong to us and may not be used without written permission.
8. Third-party services
Signing in with Google or X, paying through Stripe, push notifications through Apple and Google, and downloading models from Hugging Face all rely on third-party services, which have their own terms and privacy policies. Outages or changes in those services are outside our control.
9. Availability and safety
- We make reasonable efforts to keep the Cloud service available, but we offer no service level agreement (SLA). Maintenance, faults, network problems or third parties may interrupt it.
- Whether Quick Connect works also depends on your Onboard being online and on your network.
- Rerinku is not a substitute for a professional security or alarm service. Event detection and push notifications may be delayed, missed or wrong, and recordings may be incomplete because of power cuts, network outages or storage failures. Do not rely on Rerinku as your only means of protection. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
10. Disclaimer
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the software and the Cloud service are provided “as is” and “as available”. We make no express or implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted or error-free operation, completeness of recordings, or accuracy of detection.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, including loss of data or recordings, property damage, lost profits or business interruption, even if we were told such loss was possible;
- our total liability under these terms is limited to the amount you actually paid for the Cloud service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
This section does not exclude or limit liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, such as for loss caused by our wilful misconduct or gross negligence. Where the law of your place of residence gives consumers greater protection, that law applies.
12. Suspension and termination
- You may stop using Rerinku at any time. To delete your Rerinku Cloud account, email [email protected]; please cancel your subscription first.
- We may suspend or close your account if you breach these terms, if the law or a competent authority requires it, or to prevent harm to the Cloud service, other users or third parties. Except in an emergency, we will notify you in advance and explain why.
- After your account is closed, data in the Cloud service is handled as described in the Privacy Policy. The software and data on your devices are not affected, and Onboard keeps working locally.
- The restrictions in section 7 and sections 10, 11 and 14 survive termination of these terms.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms and will show the new revision date on this page. For significant changes we will give you at least [TBD: 15] days’ notice by email or with a prominent notice in the service. If you keep using Rerinku after the changes take effect, you accept the updated terms; if you do not accept them, you can stop using Rerinku and cancel your subscription.
14. Governing law and disputes
[TBD: governing law and dispute resolution. The previous version said “These terms are governed by the laws of the People’s Republic of China”; that is kept below for now.]
These terms are governed by the laws of the People’s Republic of China, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. Both parties will first try to resolve any dispute arising from these terms through good-faith negotiation; failing that, either party may bring proceedings in the competent people’s court at [TBD: the operator’s location].
15. General
- If any part of these terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
- If we do not exercise a right, or delay in doing so, we have not waived it.
- You may not transfer your rights and obligations under these terms without our consent. We may transfer these terms to a successor in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, and will notify you if we do.
- These terms are available in Chinese, English and Japanese. If the versions differ, the Chinese version prevails.
