Frequently asked questions

On this page

For failed actions, missing video or recording problems, start with Troubleshooting. This page explains product behavior and limits.

Do I need a Cloud account

LAN live viewing, recording, playback and local AI do not need a Cloud account. Quick Connect requires Cloud login and authorization. Phone notifications use a relay without requiring a Cloud account or Quick Connect. See Introducing Rerinku View.

Can I use it without internet

Live viewing and recording work when cameras and Rerinku View can reach each other on the LAN. Download AI models beforehand. Quick Connect, phone push, model downloads and internet-hosted storage need the relevant internet connections. Set CLOUD_REPORT=false to disable default installation reporting. See Remote access.

Does Cloud store my video and recordings

They are stored on your Rerinku View host by default. S3 or WebDAV storage you enable receives recordings. Quick Connect sends web pages, API requests, playback and thumbnails through the Cloud gateway. Live media prefers a direct connection, falling back to TURN. See What data leaves this machine.

Why does a camera use its substream

Live viewing defaults to the highest-resolution H.264 stream. With an H.265 main stream and H.264 substream, this may select the substream. Switching to H.265 requires browser support. See Streams and codecs.

Is a GPU required

No. H.264 and H.265 forwarding and recording do not need every frame decoded into an image. MJPEG transcoding and AI need more compute. GPU decoding and inference support depend on the platform; see AI recognition.

Why can an event have no recording

Event records and footage have separate retention. Deleting an event does not delete its footage. Footage may already have been removed by capacity or age policies; SDK devices and Rerinku Cam also need continuous recording enabled. See Events and Recording and playback.

Does deleting a device delete its recordings

No. Historical footage remains subject to capacity and retention policies. See Recording and playback for remote storage, local copies and total retention.

What does the phone app support

The Android app supports live video, events and notifications. Timeline playback, PTZ and talk are not yet supported. The iOS app has not been released. The current Android app cannot create a new binding when Rerinku View has an access password. See Remote access and the phone app.

How do I export or back up recordings

The web console has no video-file export yet. Copy MP4 files from recordings/ directly. A full Rerinku View backup also needs the database, secret.key and configuration. See Backup and monitoring.
